Tin disulfide (also known as Tin) is an inorganic compound that has a chemical formula of SnS2. It is a yellow hexagonal flake containing one CdI2 cristal structure. Electrochemical behavior of multi-walled carbon nanotubes that are confined tin disulfide as negative electrode in lithium ion battery
The direct current arc plasma technique has been used to make multi-walled carbon nanotube-confined metal tin Nanostructures (Sn@MWCNT) as the precursor in methane atmosphere. Then, SnS_2@MWCNT-like nanostructures were fabricated by in the reaction of sulfurization. The results of the physical characterisation of the material , such as Raman, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Transmission electron Microscopy (TEM) demonstrated that the length of multi-walled carbon-carbon nanotubes was about 400nm, the surface carbon layer was crystallized, it was thicker than the surrounding carbon, approximately 10 nm. Lithium-ion batteries using Sn S2@MWCNT nanostructures for anodes materials have an impressive electrochemical performance. The first charging and discharging Coulomb yield is 71% with 50 cycles, the power remains constant at 703 mAh?g-1. The advantages of SnS_2@MWCNT's high-capacity nanostructured electrodes result from the fact that a range of active materials have the capacity in combination, and the reaction platform of each is unique to each material.
Study on electrochemical performance of tin disulfide/single-walled carbon nanotube composite material used as anode material for lithium-ion battery
A new composite substance made of SnS2 and single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) has been prepared using an easy solvothermal process. It has good electrochemical performances after being used as the negative electrode material of lithium ion battery. In a high density of current of 1 A/g after 100 cycles, it retains a specific capacity that is reversible of the 510 mAh/g. To compare, we employed the same procedure to create one SnS2 material, and conduct electrochemical tests on it. The results show that even though the initial specific ability of SnS2 material is excellent, the cycle efficiency is not great, and goes through a rapid decline after less than 20 cycles. The better efficiency of the composite in batteries made from lithium is thought to be due to the synergy that occurs between the two parts of SnS2 and SWCNTs.
